Beloved by many and mocked by others, the story of Jonah is named after the prophet who found himself in the belly of a big fish. But this little book is more than a fish story. It's packed with theological lessons about sin and salvation, rebellion and repentance, calling and commission, mercy and justice, all seen in the unexpected twists, turns, highs, and lows of a miraculous story. Most of all it's a book about God – the ever-present, all-powerful God who pursues wayward sinners and invites them to repentance. Jonah screams, "For God so loved the world..." and for this reason, it points us to Jesus Christ who said that the story of Jonah was ultimately about Him (Matthew 12:39-41).
